Mission Statement
The Middle East has remained a key area for long-standing conflicts that continue to command international attention, including ongoing civil wars in Yemen, Libya, and Syria, violent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, regional rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the enduring Israel-Palestine conflict. Despite considerable international pressure to promote peace, negotiations, and conflict resolution, the region continues to face deadly and deep-rooted strife.
The IIP believes that an end to conflict in the regions demands new ideas, engagement between opposing parties, and international support and solidarity. To this end, the IIP focuses in particular on the Israel-Palestine conflict and aims to promote mediation and discussion as a means to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict. In addition, the IIP focuses extensively on Iran and nuclear proliferation, including the nuclear arms agreement between Iran and the PS5+1. The IIP also devotes considerable attention to the ongoing conflicts and political turbulence in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria. Through public panels, private discussions, and trips to the region, the IIP strives to boost understanding among all parties and promote non-violent means to resolve the many long-standing conflicts across the region.
