A change of power happened in spring 2021 when Albin Kurti and his movement Vetëvendosje (self-determination movement) came to power in Kosovo. The movement is inclined to fight corruption and nepotism, to introduce a new development path and to work towards a welfare state. However, Kosovo still faces many challenges deriving from its complicated past, high corruption and weak economy or the difficult relationship with Serbia. Still, Kosovo has a vibrant civil society, and its population is amongst the most pro-European ones.

How will the future of Kosovo look like in the next five to ten years? Will the new government find a way to stimulate the economy and to bring Kosovo onto the path of a prosperous democracy, where its citizens do not feel the urge to leave the country in search for better perspectives? What should the European Union do to support Kosovo? What role could Austria have and how should Kosovo deal with other external actors in the region like Russia, Turkey or China?

These and other questions will be tackled in the upcoming IIP talk with Glauk Konjufca, President of the Parliament of Kosovo and Hannes Swoboda, President of the IIP and former MEP.

The discussion will be held in English.
