In May 2022 the IIP visited the Srebrenica Memorial Center and established a successful cooperation with the Memorial Center. Sever interviews were conducted with members of the Memorial Center, who talked about their work at the center and their personal stories which are connected to the genocide which happened in July 1995.

Shireen Hunter is Professor for Political Science at the Georgetown University in Washington DC and a career diplomat. Among others she addresses the following issues: A stronger defense cooperation among Arab States and with Arab States in the framework of the Abraham-Accords against Iran is emerging, but an Arab-NATO is not likely. Both President Biden and his predecessor abandoned the two-state solution for the Palestinians. Iran’s nuclear program is just a pretext to weaken Iran’s geopolitical position in the region. The nuclear agreement (JCPOA) would be the best means to prevent a nuclear weapon. The alternative to the JCPOA could be war. Israel wants neither, however. There are hard-liners in the US and in Iran that are happy with it.

Much research shows that women from refugee or migrant communities are less likely to advocate for themselves or assert their human rights and other legal protections, despite experiencing serious human rights violations in Austria, in their home countries, or en route to Austria. They do not fully understand the legal system or how to access support, which leads to stress, fear, and isolation. It also results in many refugee and migrant women and their communities being subjected to human rights violations.

In der neuesten Ausgabe der Kitchen Talks begrüßt Moderatorin Yvonne Gaspar die Direktorin des International Institute For Peace (IIP), Mag. Stephanie Fenkart. Nach einem einjährigen Aufenthalt in Südamerika entschied sich die Vorarlbergerin für die Studienrichtung Internationale Entwicklung, die nur in Wien angeboten wurde. Die transdisziplinäre Natur des Studiums brachte sie schließlich zum Thema Menschenrechte, zu dem sie ein Masterstudium abschloss. Seit dieser Zeit hat sich vor allem die Wahrnehmung der ökologischen Menschenrechte (Recht auf sauberes Wasser, intakte Umwelt etc) verbessert, vor allem durch die zunehmende Relevanz der Klimakrise.

This year’s version titled “The Odesa Talks” aims to honor both the struggle of the Ukraine people and their resilience as well as the city of Odesa which had hosted the INS for three successive summers (2017-2019) before the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Russian invasion forced us to move to online formats of the event.
