The next event of Diplomacy & Beyond talk series will host Dr. Hannes Swoboda. Drawing on his experience in European politics and other professional appointments (detailed below), Dr. Swoboda will be addressing the tensions that arise in the process of promoting European values abroad while also remaining mindful of existing local customs and cultural practices.
Prior to serving in the European Parliament from 1996 to 2014, Dr. Swoboda was engaged in federal and municipal politics. In his role in Parliament, he occupied a double function as both a representative of the Social Democratic Party of Austria and the leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Currently, Dr. Swoboda acts as President of the International Institute for Peace, a non-governmental Vienna-based organization with the mandate of promoting peace and non-violent conflict resolution across the world. In addition, he has been appointed as the President of the Vienna Institute for International Economics, the Centre of Architecture, the University for Applied Science - Campus Vienna, and the Sir Peter Ustinov Institute.
