Content:
Technology can exacerbate conflicts, but it can also provide solutions to some of them. PeaceTech investigates how digital innovation can be applied in conflict prevention, mitigation, and resolution processes. The workshop will attempt to shed light on what PeaceTech is and how it can be developed and utilized by policy-makers, the IT industry, and international mediation and development actors. It will offer hands-on training in basic tech skills relevant to development and humanitarian aid NGOs, international organizations, and everyone interested in this emerging field.

In this workshop, we will learn about what peace tech in easy-to-understand language, how it is deployed and what it looks like in practice. Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a series of activities to share their thoughts on the pros and cons of the idea.


Preliminary schedule:

10:00-11:00 – What is peace tech and what can it mean for peacebuilding actors on the ground?

11:00-11:15: Coffee break; 

11:15-12:00: Digital technology in peace mediation: presentation and discussion of a policy paper by the Agency for Peacebuilding (Bologna). 

12-12:30 Lunch; 

12:30-13:30: Addressing skills gap: How can technology be used more/better in peace work? Why isn't digital technologies being used more in regards to peacebuilding and what can we do to address that? We will also share reflections from civic tech and what we can learn from that in regards to digital peacebuilding.
