Since 2002, when the Second Intifada took hold, the prospects for a Two State solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, long held as the best chance for peace, have declined dramatically. The Palestinian-Israeli peace process is widely seen as having reached new lows and increasingly there are voices declaring its demise. Even the United States under the current administration has begun to distance itself from the Two State Solution. Antagonism to pursuing negotiations for a Two State Solution exists on both the Israeli and Palestinian side, and one line of reasoning on both sides is that “there is no partner for peace”. This view is currently spreading internationally as well.
Yet, there have been numerous efforts to reinvigorate the two-state concept, exploring new formulas and options that are more complex and comprehensive, while also recognizing the deep attachment of Jews and Palestinians to a common homeland. Outreach to the international constituencies, including Jewish communities in Europe, by committed partners for peace consisting of former and current officials and influential persons in Israel and Palestine is needed to reaffirm the case that a two-state solution is the best chance for peace, and that this continues to be strongly supported in many parts of the Israeli and Palestinian society.
In this talk at the IIP, Israeli and Palestinian panelists will discuss the relevance and feasibility of the two-state solution and the challenges and hopes for a Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
The Discussion will be held in English.
The IIP invites to snacks and drinks after the event!
