The conflict in eastern Ukraine is reaching its four-years anniversary and still is far from its settlement. The Minsk agreements contributed to the de-escalation and institutionalization of the conflict but failed to ensure the restoration of peace and even a durable sustainable truce, not to mention a settlement of the root causes of the conflict. The conflicts at such a stage may last for indefinite time that creates significant risks for security and stability in the region.
A narrow or one-sided perception of the conflict’s roots leads to inefficiency of the suggested ways for its settlement and threatens achievement of sustainable peace in the region. Ukraine and the whole continent needsan innovative approach as well as the best international experience and practices of conflict settlement, active peacemaking efforts on international and peacebuilding efforts on local level.
Can the Western Balkans, which has become an important region for international actors engaged in peace support activities, serve as a model for tools and concepts for building peace in war-torn societies?
An expert platform combining Ukrainian experts and international peacebuilding experts (with the expertise in Western Balkan region) could be established in order to research, examine and communicate positive precedents for restoration of peace throughout the former Yugoslavia.

In Cooperation with ICPS (International Centre for Policy Studies).

The Discussion will be held in English.
Afterwards the IIP offers drinks and snacks.
